On January 18, 2025, a violent incident occurred in Hamburg’s St. Pauli district involving supporters of Hamburger SV (HSV) and 1. FC Köln. Approximately 150 masked HSV fans attacked a group of Köln supporters who were gathered in front of the “Rutsche” pub on Friedrichstraße.
In response to the incident, Hamburg’s Interior and Sports Senator, Andy Grote, condemned the violence, describing it as a “terrible assault.” He criticized the lack of condemnation from fan representatives and emphasized the need for strict enforcement of measures such as stadium bans.
